Inspiring Value-Building Change by Role Playing the Exit
1-Day CEO Retreat

In this experiential workshop, deal experts from Forbes teach a group of privately-held company owners and executives how to build better businesses with maximum value by putting participants on opposite sides of live deal negotiations. By preparing for and acting out pre-assigned buyer and seller roles, participants work through the stages of the deal and learn:

  • How buyers quantify value and engineer deals, and how companies can use this information today to make better strategic decisions
  • Common tricks and traps used by buyers and their advisors to win the high ground in negotiations
  • How buyer types differ, and how to determine which one will put more money in a seller's pocket
  • How buyers translate perceived business risks into price reductions and difficult terms
  • How to evaluate and navigate market timing

Each role-play session involves negotiation of different deal stages. The seller and buyers for each group are given personalized hand-outs that set up the role play exercise and provide examples of key questions and strategies that can be used to facilitate the process and gain leverage in the negotiations. Learning occurs through probing, negotiation, discovery of key business and market facts, and other information.

Value to Participants:

  • Gain an understanding of their businesses from the perspective of buyers to inspire fresh thinking and application of market-driven value enhancement
  • Learn how to build better business by experiencing painful and expensive lessons from an exit, without having to take unnecessary risks when its too late

This program is conducted nationwide through-out the year for CEO groups such as Vistage International.  It can also be adapted for trade organization programs.
